TEEN YOGA

Yoga provides many benefits for everyone but in particular in the context of teenage children it offers:
- A way to understand how they can keep their minds healthy as well as their bodies
- A non competitive form of movement that builds strength and flexibility
- A counter balance of stretching and relaxation for those who are particularly into competitive or team sports

Yoga offers many tools that can be incorporated into daily life to help with managing moods and emotions, dealing with stress and helping to get a good night’s sleep. Schools that have incorporated a yoga programme for their students have found a reduction in the need for referrals to mental health services such as counselling.

My Teen Yoga Foundation training course comprised 100 hours of teen yoga, anatomy, physiology and psychology. The course is accredited with Yoga Alliance Professionals and qualifies me as a UK Level 3 Sports Coach. I am also fully insured with DBS certificate and have completed safeguarding and first aid training. Some ways that I could offer yoga within schools are:

-  As part of PSHE or PE lessons, either a regular class or a short course
-  As a lunch club
- CPD sessions for teachers to help them incorporate basic breathing, stretching and mindfulness techniques into their own lessons
